2016 Toyota Venza Review

Originally presented back in 2008 as a 2009 model, this two-row crossover SUV gained sympathies of the automotive world. 2016 Toyota Venza should be representing second generation, since the current model is showing its aging. Hardly competitive segment in which Venza competes in is yet another reason why we can expect major changes from the upcoming model year.

2016 Toyota Venza exterior and interior

It is hard to assume what changes will be made on 2016 Toyota Venza, primarily because there is very few info about it. Japanese manufacturer didn’t even hint the changes, and there is still no any spy shots of the test mules. We won’t speculate about the undercarriage of the Venza SUV, but we are pretty sure that new model year will bring some weight reduction, due to various facts.

Exterior of the model will be changed in couple of ways. First of all, the body shape will not be as rounded as for the current version. It will have more sharp edges, changed grill and reshaped headlights. Beside these design changes, its appearance will be further refreshed with couple of new color choices, and wheel designs. Interior design will not be changes drastically, when it comes to its layout. Interior upgrades will mostly be oriented to cosmetic changes, and equipment upgrades, instead of some big design change. 2016 Toyota Venza will continue to offer three trims, including LE, XLE and Limited.

Although it might seem greatly equipped, which it is, Venza still misses a couple of important features, especially in safety department. Since it is Venza’s turn for a major makeover, Toyota will definitely address demand of the market, and enhance 2016 Toyota Venza safety rates.

2016 Toyota Venza engine and fuel economy

The engine line-up used to be made out of two power units, which include V6 engine and a 4-cylinder one. However, the results of the 4-cylinder unit were not as satisfactory as one might think. This could cause major change for the 2016 Toyota Venza. Japanese producer may even decide to add a diesel option, but we will wait and see.

For now, base engine of the Venza is a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder with 181 horsepower and 182 pound-feet of torque. Optional engine is a 3.5-liter V6 rated at 268 horsepowerp and 246 lb-ft of torque. Both engine could be mated to either front- or all-wheel drive, and are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Drivetrain didn’t make any significant fuel economy differences. With FWD Venza used to deliver 23 mpg in combined ride with a 4-cylinder engine, and a mile less with AWD, while the rates for the city and highway drive remain unchanged. With a V6, it returned a mile less in each parameter when combined with AWD, and with FWD those rates were 19/26/22 mpg city/hwy/combined. This rates are expected to change significantly with new generation and 2016 model year, but there is still no info which could indicate what those numbers could be.

2016 Toyota Venza price and release date

Venza is usually compared with Subaru Outback and Nissan Rogue which are named as its biggest rivals on the market. The segment this SUV competes in is, however, one of the most crowded ones, and the things that usually brings an advantage for some models is often related to small things and details, such as pricing specs, or a feature more.  The pricing for 2016 Toyota Venza is not published yet, mainly due to the fact that we will have to wait for its release for quite some time. Based on some prognoses we can expect it to be slightly bigger than its predecessors. These prognoses are not based only on level of changes, but also to competition. Its base price tag should be around $30,000, or couple of hundreds above. The release of 2016 Toyota Venza is not expected before early 2016, and its sales should start around the fall same year.
