2016 Toyota Tarago

Here is yet another MPV from Toyota’s family of vehicles, known under the various names, depending on the markets. In Japan, this minivan is known under the name Estima, in Australia as Tarago, and in other selling areas as Toyota Previa. The current, fourth, generation of the model started back in 2006, and the 2016 Toyota Tarago will probably be the first model of the new, fifth generation. Big redesign will, most likely, affect various segments.

The changes that will come with this model year, and new generation, will be major. Platform of the model should be changed, in order to deliver lower weight of the minivan and more versatility. However, very few info about the model is available, and for various precise information we will have to wait for official press release.

Exterior changes will be pretty extensive. Front end should be completely remodeled, with new headlights, grill and fascia. Following the current market trends, 2016 Toyota Tarago headlights will feature styling changes, while grill will be much larger and differently shaped than the current one. Overall body shape should remain the same, but some molding could be included. Bigger wheel and new wheel design should complete the picture together with revised back end.

2016 Toyota Tarago interior will also suffer some significant alterations. Materials used on the inside will be of better quality which will contribute to overall luxurious fell inside the cabin. Improved design of seats, different dash layout, and upgraded features will all be part of the new upcoming Tarago MPV. It will be available in same five trims as its predecessor, including Tarago 4-cylinder GLi, Tarago 4-cylinder GLX, Tarago V6 GLi, Tarago V6 GLX and Tarago V6 Ultima.

2016 Toyota Tarago engine and mpg

Under the hood, we can only speculate possible solutions. The current engines could stay the same, but their power will probably be slightly boosted. Lighter weight and design aerodynamic enhancements could cause overall better performance and higher fuel economy rates.

Current 2.4L 4-cylinder engine delivers 168 (125 kW) horsepower and 165 lb-ft (224 Nm) of torque. With this engine and standard CVT and FWD current Tarago delivered around 26 mpg in combined ride. 2016 model year changes will affect this numbers, and we expect better rates in every segment (including power and economy).

Current optional engine is a 3.5L V6 that produces 270 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. Combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission and FWD this model used to deliver around 23 mpg in combined ride.

The release date shouldn’t be expected before early 2016. Pricing range is still unavailable, but according  to everything we just said about the model, we believe that increase will not be as significant as changes might. Starting price is expected somewhere around 38,000 USD or under 50,000 AUD.
