The 2016 Toyota Mirai is an all-new Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Sedan with specific design and highly-innovative technologies. Mirai stands for “future” in Japanese, and this word describes the best the intentions Toyota had with this latest edition. Although the exterior is not quite by everyone’s taste, Japanese producer aims to make a turning point in modern car industry. First goal is achieved! Toyota is officially the first major brand that offered this type of vehicle.

As we mentioned earlier, the look of the Mirai is quite unique. Its body lines are unusual and unconventional. Its exterior is filled with details which are triangular-shaped, including lights and air vents. However, the eye-catching beauty is was not the primary focus of Toyota’s designers. In fact the whole structure was formed to serve the functionality.

The weight of the vehicle is higher than we might expected it to be, considering that fuel-cell vehicles tend to weight more than regular hybrids. 2016 Toyota Mirai weights 4079 pounds, which is pretty heavy, considering the current market and especially compared to Toyota Camry Hybrid, which weights 500+ pounds less than the Mirai.  These two vehicle also share great similarity in dimensions, although Mirai model is few inches taller (2.5 to be precise).

2016 Toyota Mirai interior is specific as much as exterior is. Upholstered in pseudo leather, Mirai offers few color choices for its interior trim, mainly variations with black as primary color. Although the interior design may not appeal everyone’s taste, Toyota did make the new Mirai a vehicle of future with latest technologies. Entune infotainment system, navigation which offer the option to find a nearest hydrogen-station are all packed with Mirai sedan.

The performance of the Mirai is based on electric motor which is capable to develop 151 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. It acceleration time is said to be 9 second (from 0 to 60 mph). The nickel-metal-hydride battery gets its energy from fuel-cells stacked under the front seats. Its electric-only range is announced to be around 300 miles, with trunk capacity of 11 pounds of hydrogen. It fueling time is around 5 minutes, which is pretty outstanding.

Japanese car producer, Toyota, presented its all-new FCV named Mirai at the 2014 LA Auto Show, few months ago, in November. However, its release is not expected before the end of this year, 2015, while sales should start early on next. The exact price is still unavailable, but according to Toyota, we can expect new Mirai to start at around $45,000.
