Toyota’s Matrix model is a compact hatch, which was originally produced back in 2002, and launched as 2003 model. However, the production of this interesting model is discontinued in 2013 for US market, and a year later in Canada. The upcoming model year could bring news regarding this model, which could be offered again as 2016 Toyota Matrix. Primarily Matrix was a vehicle for younger population and it achieved some great results at the beginning of its life. Later on, this hatch features significant sales decrease which forced Toyota officials to end the production. This news are not welcomed by Matrix lover, due to the fact that it was one of the most practical vehicles on the market. It offered great cargo space and unique design, which is expected to be the case with the 2016 Toyota Matrix as well. Based on previous models, new MY will bring the same trims as before, which will include base, S and XRS.

New Matrix should keep its connections with the Corolla model, only this time, it will be based on latest variant, which should mark the modern features, and materials. Toyota is known for its highly equipped yet affordable vehicles, which will also be the case with 2016 Matrix.

According to latest information, the main reason for Matrix’s earlier downfall was in its lack of power. Previous model were packed with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, which was the base. It used to produce 132 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque. Base engine was coupled with either 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.

Second engine was a 2.4-liter four-cylinder capable to deliver 158 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. With this engine Toyota used to offer 5-speed transmissions, manual and automatic. Both front- and all-wheel drive will be available in new Toyota Matrix, as before.

Fuel economy is rated at 25/32/28 mpg for 1.8-liter engine and automatic transmission, while with manual it delivered a mile more per parameter. With stronger engine, fuel economy depends on transmission and it goes from 22 mpg to 24 mpg in combined ride.

If the rumors come true, new 2016 Toyota Matrix should be released early on 2016, not before. The price of the model is uncertain, but expected to start around $20,000.
