2016 Scion tC

Originally Scion presented its sport compact coupe back in 2004. Current version of Scion’s tC is in its second generation, which started back in 2011. However, the model didn’t achieve expected sales results, which forced Toyota to start the third generation even earlier than planned. 2016 Scion tC will come fully redesigned, and will mark the start of the third generation. With young buyers as target customers, Toyota will make some significant revisions on the upcoming Scion tC, but the makeover can’t affect the price significantly.

As of start of the second generation we had a impression that Scion tC is constantly evolving. The truth is that Toyota tried to find a solution to enhance sales, without major changes. Since this failed, Japanese automaker decided to “pull out the big guns”, and do a redesign. Changes will make a difference in every segment of the vehicle.

Exterior changes will be most visible on the front end of the vehicle. We can expect completely revised front fascia. New grill design, reshaped headlights, and bumpers will be some of the changes that will be done on the upcoming 2016 Scion tC. Rear end will also be revised, which will include taillights and spoiler, which will affect the aerodynamics of the vehicle. New wheel deign will be the “icing on the cake”.

Interior of the 2016 Scion tC will be the focus area of upgrades, since this is the “troubled” part. The most critics were directed to materials and noise inside the cabin. Toyota’s innovative solutions regarding the noise issues, and materials made of higher quality should bring the customers back to Scion’s showrooms. List of standard and optional features will probably be supplemented with some of the inevitable features such as rearview camera.

The performance of the new tC will be enhanced as well. Although there are no expectations regarding new engines, the current Scion tC engine could be upgraded. It is 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine. Currently this power unit produces 179 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque, but Toyota may enhance those rates with power boosters. Transmissions will probably stay the same. This includes manual and automatic 6-speeders. Front-wheel drivetrain should remain, but since we do not have info about the platform, (whether it will be changed or not, to be precise) it is hard to assume the drivetrain.

Its fuel economy rates should stay more or less the same as for the current model, which delivers decent numbers of 23/31/26 mpg city/hwy/combined.

2016 Scion tC price and release date

The release date will be somewhere early on 2016. Pricing specs are unavailable, but new 2016 Scion tC shouldn’t be priced much higher than the current $20,000 base price tag.
