2016 Scion FRS News and Specs

Scion brand is a division of Toyota, specialized for production of vehicles for North American market. It was founded in 2002, and produced total of 6 models. FRS is the youngest in the line-up. 2016 Scion FRS will go through mid-cycle facelift, and changes made on this model will affect its weight, performance and design. However, the biggest fuss is caused the news about new body styles of the FRS, which will be offered with upcoming model year.

The majority of exterior changes are related to FRS’s construction. Its platform will stay the same, but new FRS will be built out of light-weighted materials, used much more than for its previous version. Sedan and convertible models will also be presented for 2016 model year, for the first time, while coupe version will remain the main version of the vehicle. Sedan model is expected to be around 20 inches longer than the coupe, and 4 inches higher.

Styling exterior changes will not bring anything major. It will mostly include revisions and reshape of both front and rear end, in order to make 2016 Scion FRS more modern and more aggressive. These changes will also affect the aerodynamics of the vehicle which will help with its performance. The lower weight will influence the fuel economy, so FRS fans will be delighted to hear this news.

Inside changes for the new 2016 FRS will keep its focus on quality. Features and materials used for the cabin will be upgraded, delivering fresh and more luxurious touch to the overall interior. The model will keep its trims, which means it will be available in base and Release Series 1.0 version.

Under the hood of the upcoming Scion FRS we can expect same engine, although better output numbers, for the regular coupe version. It is a 2.0-liter horizontally opposed 4-cylinder unit, which currently delivers 200 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. Transmission choices will remain the same, meaning that 2016 Scion FRS will offer both manual and automatic 6-speeder.

Rear wheel drive remains for the upcoming model year, and it will be the standard drive configuration for sedan and convertible as well. The power of the sedan is said to be around 300 horses, but neither Scion nor Toyota reveal any closer data when it comes to both 2016 Scion FRS sedan and convertible.

New FRS will cost more than its predecessor, which is around $25,000 – $26,000 for the base coupe version. The release date of the 2016 FRS coupe is expected sometime during the third quarter of this year, while sedan and convertible version are expected to appear on the markets few months after that.
