2016 Lexus RX Release date, Changes

Upcoming SUV, one of the best-selling models from the Lexus’s line-up will come to the market with severe changes. Its most visible change are its dimensions, which will be stretched in order to provide more space for third row, which will be introduced with 2016 Lexus RX. This mid-size SUV will be bigger, and one of the reasons for this decision is the fact that Lexus introduced the NX model, which will be similar size as previous RX. New generation RX will be larger due to that, and big demand on the market for three-row SUVs.

Starting from the bottom, the platform, new 2016 Lexus RX will use the same architecture as Toyota Highlander. This is not something new, since the RX already shared its platform with one of the best-selling SUVs from Toyota. But some things will be changed. Beside the size, which we mentioned in the introduction of this article, new RX will have to scale between extra space and added weight. This will be resolved with usage of light-weight materials, such as aluminum and carbon fiber. However one thing that follows the weight reduction is price increase, so do not expect new RX to stay in the same range as its predecessor. Third row seats will not be standard on the 2016 Lexus RX, in fact, it will be available as option. This way Lexus’s fans will be able to enjoy new, more modern RX, without the third seat, if they don’t have the need for it.

Styling changes will not be radical, but rather improvements of the current style. Front end will be modernized, primarily headlights and grill, as well as rear lights. Body will be sleeker and even more elegant than before, available in few additional body paints.

Inside the 2016 Lexus RX will not be many surprises. Its great design and high-quality materials will be awarded with more space inches. Available features will be upgraded to meet latest standards, including safety equipment. Both RX 350 (standard and F Sport trims) and RX 450h hybrid versions will still be available.

2016 Lexus RX performance and mpg

Changes are not expected to apply on the performance of the 2016 Lexus RX. Two choices – regular and hybrid variants will be the only choices available, while some sources indicate that new engine could be included into the offer after the release, or potentially for 2017 model year.

2016 Lexus RX 350 will be run by a 3.5-liter V6 engine with an output of 270 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque. Depending on trim, transmissions offered for the RX differ. Standard transmission is a 6-speed automatic, which is coupled with either front-wheel drive (standard) or all-wheel drive (optional). F Sport will continue to offer same engine combined exclusively with 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

2016 Lexus RX 450h combines base engine (3.5-liter V6) with either two (FWD) or three (AWD) electric motors. Its transmission is a CVT, and total output 295 horsepower.

Depending on drivetrain the RX 350 delivered either 20 or 21 mpg in combined ride, and RX 450h delivered 29 or 30 mpg. These rates will change with 2016 Lexus RX, due to extensive body alterations, so we can’t claim any numbers before official rates from EPA.
